MLA-CMC at Upcoming Summer 2023 ALA and MAC Meetings

CMC will be representing MLA’s interests at three upcoming meetings: ALA Core’s Core Subject Analysis Committee (SAC) and the MARC Advisory Committee (MAC) in June and ALA Core’s Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access (CC:DA) in July.

SAC will be meeting virtually June 14, 15, 16, 2023 from 1:00-3:00 pm CST (2-4 Eastern) each day. Meetings do not require a registration fee and are open to all interested guests, who may participate via Zoom chat and come and go throughout. To attend, you will need to register for a Zoom link that will admit you to all three meetings. The agenda and the liaison reports, including MLA’s, are posted to the SAC ALA Connect public site as they arrive. If you have specific concerns or interests for this meeting, or questions about SAC in general, please contact Janelle West, chair of the CMC Vocabularies Subcommittee and MLA’s liaison to SAC.

MAC will be meeting virtually Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 10:30 am-1:30 pm Eastern, with the same time reserved on June 29 if discussion needs to continue. Meetings are open to observers. Access links are posted to the MARC listserv shortly before each meeting. The agenda is available now. MLA is the author of Discussion Paper No. 2023-DP07: Recording Numeric Designation of Musical Expressions in the MARC 21 Bibliographic and Authority Formats. If you have specific concerns or interests for this meeting, or questions about MAC in general, please contact Ethan D’Ver, chair of the CMC Encoding Standards Subcommittee and MLA’s liaison to SAC. If you have comments on 2023-DP07 or other proposals or discussion papers that you would like to have incorporated into MLA’s written response, please send those to Ethan prior to Tuesday June 13.

CC:DA will be meeting virtually Friday, July 14, 2:00-5:00 pm Eastern and Friday, July 21, 1:00-4:00 pm Eastern. The agenda with registration link will be posted on the CC:DA ALA Connect public site sometime in late June. Meetings do not require a registration fee and are open to all interested guests. CMC-CSS is submitting an RDA discussion paper, “New and modified elements for opus and thematic index numbers,” which complements MARC 2023-DP07. If you have concerns or interests related to CC:DA, please contact Keith Knop, chair of the CMC Content Standards Subcommittee and MLA’s liaison to CC:DA.
