CMC Business Meeting Report 2020

MUSIC LIBRARY ASSOCIATION CATALOGING AND METADATA COMMITTEE Business Meetings, MLA Annual Meeting 2020, Norfolk, Virginia THURSDAY February 27, 11:00 am-12:25 pm 1. Introduction and announcements (Snyder)    11-11:15 Tracey Snyder called the meeting to order and reminded those present to sign the attendance sheets. Tracey called attention to the printed copies of the agenda for those that had not already printed them. She also reminded everyone that the agenda is on the CMC Blog. Tracey pointed out that she and Joshua Henry are recording the meeting for note taking purposes. Tracey reminded everyone to use the microphone to help with picking up audio. Tracey read the Code of Conduct from the CMC Handbook. Philadelphia, PA, January 25-27, 2020 Reported by Rebecca Belford (Oberlin College & Conservatory), Chair, MLA CMC Vocabularies Subcommittee Reports from: Faceted Subject Access Interest Group Authority Control Interest Group Technical Services Managers in Academic Libraries Interest Group (“Medium Heads”) Heads of Cataloging Departments Interest Group Subject Analysis Committee (SAC) Subject Analysis Committee: Subcommittee on Faceted Vocabularies (SSFV) Faceted Subject Access Interest Group (ALCTS CaMMS) January 25, 2020 Three presentations followed a brief update from the FAST Policy and Outreach Committee (FPOC). “FAST: Finding the Future of Subject Access at the British Library” (Caroline Kent, British Library) The British Library (BL) team (Alan Danskin, Caroline Kent, Janet Ashton) began its exploration of FAST (Faceted Application of Subject Terminology) as part of a review to identify cataloging efficiencies. MAC: ALA Midwinter Report 2020

ALA Midwinter Meeting 2020, Philadelphia Report by Karen Peters (Library of Congress), Chair, Encoding Standards Subcommittee MARC Advisory Committee Meetings (January 25 and 26) Agenda: http://www.loc.gov/marc/mac/mw2020_age.html Over the course of two meetings, the MARC Advisory Committee (MAC) considered two proposals and seven discussion papers. Two of the discussion papers deal with changes in MARC that will be needed to accommodate new RDA elements introduced as part of the RDA Toolkit Restructure and Redesign Project (“beta RDA”), while one of the proposals and several of the discussion papers have their genesis in issues related to the development of BIBFRAME and the process of converting or migrating data between BIBFRAME and MARC. Both proposals passed unanimously; the future of the discussion papers is unknown at present. The majority of the meeting was devoted to liaison and task force reports; since these reports will be published in the March issue of the OLAC Newsletter only selected highlights appear in this report. The 2020 OLAC Conference, celebrating OLAC’s 40th anniversary, will be held in Columbus, Ohio, October 14-17, 2020. The conference host is OCLC, and most meeting sessions will be held at OCLC.
