The Core division business meetings are no longer held at ALA; this year’s reports are from the Subject Analysis Committee. Core has switched to online interest group weeks, separate from the ALA meetings. They are not included in the reports because they are virtual and open to all. This year’s starts March 7, 2022.

Core Metadata and Collections Section Subject Analysis Committee 2022 Midwinter Meetings Reported by: Rebecca Belford, MLA CMC Vocabularies Subcommittee Chair and MLA liaison to SAC The Core Subject Analysis Committee met January 20-21, 2022, with approximately 80 attendees at each session. As usual, the first meeting was dedicated to liaison reports and the second to discussion. This meeting marked the debut of the Core Subject Analysis Committee Public Space on ALA Connect, where anyone can access liaison reports via the space’s “Library” tab. After the MAC members introduced ourselves, the minutes from the June 2021 meetings were approved, and it was noted that no fast-track proposals had been approved since the June meetings. ALA Core Subject Analysis Committee meetings, July 22-23, 2021 reported by Rebecca Belford, MLA CMC Vocabularies Subcommittee Chair and liaison to SAC The ALA Core Metadata and Collections Section Subject Analysis Committee (SAC) met virtually on July 22, 2021 and July 23, 2021. The first meeting focused on questions and answers on pre-submitted written reports from liaisons and ex officio members: Library of Congress Policy, Training, and Cooperative Programs Division (PTCP), Janis Young, liaison Written report: SAC21-AC/1.3 (PDF) (Google Doc converted version if security warning) Highlights: Significant progress on multiples subject headings project (cancellation of subdivisions that automatically gives free-floating status to analogous subdivisions used under the same heading). Meeting #1, June 28, 2021, 10:30-12:30 EST Chair Matthew Wise opened the meeting and explained the protocols for this set of virtual meetings, which were held via WebEx. After the MAC members introduced ourselves, minutes from the January 2021 meetings were approved. No fast-track proposals have been approved since the last meeting. Proposal No. 2021-11, “Defining Subfields $y and $z for Incorrect/Canceled ISSNs in Field 490 of the MARC 21 Bibliographic Format,” was introduced by Jay Weitz on behalf of OCLC. Committee on Cataloging: Descriptive Access (CC:DA): Virtual ALA, Summer 2021 Keith Knop, MLA Liaison The Core Committee: Description and Access held a virtual meeting on July 26, compressed due to scheduling difficulties from three meetings originally planned for earlier in the month. Due to the shortened meeting time, most of the time was spent on highlights from the various written officer and liaison reports. Virtual meetings held February 26, 2021 and March 19, 2021 Report by Rebecca Belford, Chair, CMC Vocabularies Subcommittee and MLA liaison to SAC New business follows highlight of liaison reports, below. Technical difficulties with the ALA Core Connect Space means that access to liaisons’ written reports has been unintentionally restricted; these are available on request.  SAC Chair Brian Stearns welcomed new associate members Margaret Joyce and Adrian Williams; new liaison organizations and their liaisons Getty (Jonathan Ward), OCLC (Robert Bremer), and LC Children’s and Young Adults’ Cataloging Program (Stacey Devine); and new liaisons for LC Editorial (Michele Zwierski) and FAST (Heidy Berthoud).
