Music cataloging webinars, recent and upcoming

Slides are available for two recent webinars: Music Cataloging Basics Presented October 31, 2018, by Linda Blair and Mary Huismann. Slides Introduction to LC Faceted Vocabularies for Music Resources Presented August 29, 2018, by Casey Mullin and Hermine Vermeij. Slides Materials for these and other webinars can be found on MLA’s Previous Workshops page. Stay tuned for details in 2019 on upcoming webinars about cataloging music resources in RDA. This includes revised versions of webinars from 2014 and 2015 on scores, music video recordings, classical audio recordings, and popular music audio recordings, as well as new webinars on librettos and historic audio recordings.

OCLC Music Toolkit installer updates, October 2018

Current and future users of the OCLC Music Toolkit are encouraged to download the updated installer from http://files.library.northwestern.edu/public/Music382/. New NOTES article on faceted music vocabularies

Congratulations to Beth Iseminger, Nancy Lorimer, Casey Mullin, and Hermine Vermeij on their article in the March 2017 issue of NOTES, Faceted Vocabularies for Music: A New Era in Resource Discovery. This article highlights important work done by the Cataloging and Metadata Committee (formerly the Bibliographic Control Committee) of MLA, in partnership with the Library of Congress, as well as earlier work leading up to the development and publication of the vocabularies (LCMPT and LCGFT for music). Best Practices for Using LCMPT–new version now available

Colleagues, The MLA Vocabularies Subcommittee is pleased to offer a new version of the document Best Practices for Using LCMPT. In addition to a number of minor formatting and stylistic updates, the following new content is incorporated: Guidance for use of the new 382 subfields $r and $t Expanded guidance on “bi-level” medium statements Expanded guidance on partial medium statements Clarification on polychoral situations As always, feedback and questions can be directed to me (casey@mullingroup.com). Additionally, the new revision will be briefly discussed at the VS business meeting and at the CMC Town Hall at MLA Orlando.
